NVR in Belgium

Nonviolent Resistance and the New Authority were brought to Belgium by Dr. Annik Lampo, who organized a 2-day master class with Professor Haim Omer in 2007. Bitten by this innovative approach, together with some colleagues, Frank Van Holen went to Tel Aviv for training in the ‘New Authority Center’ (2008). Subsequently he organized several in-house training seminars with Dr. Peter Jakob (2009-2010). Thereafter, in association with Professor Johan Vanderfaeillie and Dr. Annik Lampo, he organized supervision and training moments and a successful conference day in Brussels with Idan Amiel entitled: “Nonviolent resistance in Family and Classroom” (2011). On this occasion the booklet “Applications of nonviolent resistance and the new authority in family therapy, education and psychiatric care” was published.
The approach is spreading, more Belgian professionals found their way to Tel Aviv for training in 2011 and several institutions started working according to the main principles of this approach each with their specific focus, for instance PAïka (child psychiatry), Cocon Vilvoorde (home guidance), M.P.I. Sint-Fransiscus (disabled child care), De Wingerdbloei (Multifunctional Youth Care center), Minor ‘nDako (residential care), Ter Wende (Observation and treatment center), etcetera.
According to the main principles of NVR/NA these Belgian professionals start getting organized in order to exchange knowledge and expertise, support for interested and promote NVR/NA. Together with some colleagues from the Lorentzhuis in the Netherlands Frank Van Holen stands at the base of the organization of the Second International NVR/NA-conference – “New Trends in Nonviolent Resistance: Between New Authority and Attachment” in March 2012 in Antwerp.

Geweldloos Verzet en de Nieuwe Autoriteit werden in België geïntroduceerd door Dr. Annik Lampo die een tweedaagse masterclass organiseerde met prof. Haim Omer in 2007. Gebeten door deze vernieuwende benadering trok Frank Van Holen samen met enkele collega’s naar Tel Aviv voor een opleiding in het ‘New Authority Center’. Vervolgens legde hij verschillende seminaries in met Dr. Peter Jakob (2009-2010). Daarna organiseerde hij, in samenwerking met Prof. Johan Vanderfaeillie en Dr. Annik Lampo, verschillende trainingen en een succesvolle conferentiedag in Brussel met Idan Amiel, getiteld: “Geweldloos Verzet in Gezin en Klas” (2011). Ter gelegenheid van deze conferentie werd het boek “Applications of nonviolent resistance and the new authority in family therapy, education and psychiatric care” gepubliceerd.
De benadering verspreid zich verder, verschillende Belgische hulpverleners trekken naar Tel Aviv voor training en verscheidene instellingen zetten stappen gericht op de implementatie van de belangrijkste principes van deze benadering, elk met hun specifieke focus, bijvoorbeeld: PAïka (kinderpsychiatrie), Cocon Vilvoorde (thuisbegeleiding), M.P.I. Sint-Fransiscus, De Wingerdbloei (Multifunctioneel Centrum), Minor ‘nDako (residentiële zorg), Ter Wende (Observatie en Behandelingscentrum), etcetera.
Overeenstemmend met de principes van NVR/NA zetten deze professionelen de eerste stappen richting een nationale organisatie met het oog op wederzijdse ondersteuning, uitwisseling van kennis en expertise, ondersteuning voor geïnteresseerden, enzovoort. Samen met collega’s van het Lorentzhuis in Nederland staat Frank Van Holen aan de basis van de organisatie van de tweede internationale NVR/NA-conferentie “New Trends in Nonviolent Resistance: Between New Authority and Attachment” in March 2012 in Antwerp.
