New Authority Parenting Ireland

Building Stronger Families

In 2014, Catrina Scanlan and Tara Kelly met at an NVR training event in Dublin with Dr. Declan Coogan and Eileen Lauster. Both Tara and Catrina had worked with parents and children for many years and each had identified an increase in child to parent violence and aggression. On completion of the NVR training, Tara and Catrina began to deliver the NVR programme through group work with parents and in individual support work with parents. Having had considerable success with this programme, they returned to train as trainers with Dr. Coogan. Since then, they continue to use NVR extensively in their work – as practitioners, trainers and practice supervisors.

In 2016, Tara and Catrina established New Authority Parenting  - a service that offers NVR training for practitioners, support for parents and seminars for agencies and services. The concept of a New Authority is central to their work. They are currently exploring the use of NVR in addressing childhood anxiety and school refusal. Both Tara and Catrina are part of a practitioners group in Ireland and are keen to make contacts internationally with a view to further exploration of the effectiveness of building a New Authority through Non-Violent Resistance in child and family work.
