Newsletter - February 2014

February, 2014

As we welcome the New Year, we are happy to look back on the activities and projects undertaken by our growing NVR community.
Here is a small sample of the exciting developments and partnerships that came into existence in 2013, with a taste of what's to come in 2014.

In Austria, more than 150 people participated in the 'Gemeinsam zum Wohl des Kindes' conference organized by INA. Schools, social institutions and companies grow increasingly interested the principles of NVR and NA; Read more here.

The Belgian Institute for Non-violent Resistance (BIGV) became operational on 12/12/12 starting with a basic NVR training in collaboration with the New Authority Center team from Israel. NVR professionals in schools, led by Ms. Hilde Leonard, began NVR trainings for schools with Frank van Holen and Jan Hoot (more details here) and an advanced supervision for NVR professionals with Idan Amiel was held in Brussels. In June this year a workshop with Prof. Haim Omer will also take place in Brussels.

Still in Belgium‘Wingerdbloei' team, headed by Paul Meganck , continues to implement NVR&NA, read here more about the extensive process ‘Wingerdbloei' is working on.

Jeugdzorg Emmaüs embarked in 2013 on an ambitious plan to implement NVR & NA in treatment facilities for youth located in Antwerp and its surroundings – don't miss the picture from Van Celst and Hakatoo. An upcoming training is due to be held in May this year.

In Germany, as always, NVR & NA conferences, workshops and trainings by experienced NVR professionals are spread across the country. A new book edited by Michael Grabbe, Jörn Borke & Cornelia Tsirigotis connects the concept of the new authority with attachment theory. A must for German readers; read more here.
Finally, we are very excited to annouce that this year’s most central NVR & NA event will take place in Munich! The upcomming 3rd international conference in NVR & NA will be organized by Tobias von der Recke from MISW.
No need to read anymore news from Germany, just register now and hear it all at the conference!

In Ireland, Eileen Lauster and Declan Coogan have provided NVR training in a variety of services in Northern Ireland and England. On June 2014, a conference on child-to-parent violence with Peter Jakob and others will take place at the National University of Ireland (more details here).

In Israel the 3rd national conference on New Authority was held at Schneider Children’s Medical Center. More than 350 professionals participated and learned about new developments in the New Authority concept from Dr. Ifat Levavi-Lavie, Nitsan Lipschitz, Nir Sonnenberg and others.

In the Netherlands, successful workshops by Hans Bom and Eliane Wiebenga created great demand for in-company-workshops and trainings. Ron Ottenbros and Kirsten van Gink from the training team in deBascule continues to assimilate NVR in schools and residential settings
NVR got national accreditation from the Dutch Database of Effective Social Interventions; and the 'Dutch Network for New Authority' started to organize regular lectures for a special subsidized price. (Read more here).

In Switzerland, isi-netz24 continues to lead and disseminate NVR & NA. The 14th annual conference “Stärke Statt Macht” took place in Zurich with Prof. Haim Omer, Dr. Uri Weinblatt and other professionals. A basic NVR training took place for the first time and more trainings organized by isi-net24 with Claudia Seefeldt are on their way. Read here for more about NVR & NA in Switzerland.

In the United Kingdom NVR and New Authority are growing in popularity. PartnershipProjects has developed the UK’s first comprehensive training and Peter Jakob keeps strong connection to Belgium and the Netherlands, especially in regard to child-focused work, multi-stressed families and trauma work involving NVR.
The April copy of ‘Context’, the magazine of the Association for Family Therapy in the UK, will be entirely devoted to Non Violent Resistance and preparation for a national NVR conference is on its way. Read more here.

As promised, the N.A.N.I. website will continue to adapt for the growing needs of our community. In order to promote and disseminate NVR & NA we set a new page on the website – News & Events in which conferences, workshops, trainings etc. will be published in a transparent way to serve us all.

Our wish is also to promote learning via the website and we also added the option to send us case reports for publication. We’d like to welcome you to the first case study sent by Mies De Cock from ‘Wingerdbloei' describing the use of NVR as a systemic intervention in a complex case.
In trying to overcome linguistic obstacles in learning NVR we also encourage NVR activists to translate articles from our recourse section. This is the right time to thank Philippe Collart for his continuing efforts in translating NVR articles to Dutch - this time he adds Prof. Haim Omer's article "Parental presence and aggressive proneness".
We are also glad to announce the first NVR translation to Greek by Dr. Spiridoula Kotsi

Looking forward to a safe, joyful and productive 2014!
