My name is Rosemary Baragwanath. I am not a parent. I am a Social Worker in BristolUk. I have specialised in the last 10 years in adoption support. This is my passion. I was appalled by what I heard and experienced in adoptive families. The trauma of abused and neglected children wrought havoc into, what were once ,normally functioning individuals and families
Three years ago I had a crash course in NVR and asked a family I was working with whether we could 'have a go'. Everything else we had attempted had failed dismally and the child concerned and parents (and sibling) were on their knees. The violence and abuse perpetrated by this young girl was terrible. It's a very long story but 3 plus years later the family are intact and moving forward. Violence has reduced if not disappeared altogether. Since my crash course I have done the training and had many more NVR experiences. I intend passing on your details to the NVR group and although they are all adoptive parents, I am sure there is some common threads. Thank you Rosemary

Thank you Rosemary for sharing your experience. I have to say that even as a seasoned NVR therapist, hearing about your work and the positive results gives added strength and reinforcement for us professionals and parents battling in the trenches. I'd love to hear more about your work and we would love to hear from the parents that you work with.
Thanks again, Michal

Hi,
I'm Helen. I have three daughters. I first came to NVR as my husband and I were struggling to cope with behaviours shown by our then fourteen year old. She was violent towards me, wouldn't attend school, very disrespectful, smoked, took drugs and much more. She was also being sexually exploited. The whole family was collapsing and we felt helpless and hopeless. Through NVR, we learnt that our reactions to situations were making things worse. Everyone in the house was so busy shouting and blaming each other, we had forgotten how to parent! The course showed Martin and I how to work together. We gained tools which helped us calm situations, communicate better and rebuild relationships that had broken down.
It has not been easy, and four years on life still throws up challenges but we are now a loving family that work together and support each other.

"I am a graduate parent facilitator (Volunteer) in London. I graduated with a few other parents in 2013. My son became involved in a gang trafficking drugs from the age of 13/14 he is now 17. As any parent could imagine this was a very traumatic life change for me and my family. Since becoming a facilitator I had the privilege, alongside 3 other parents (the 4 Mothers) to attend an amazing conference in Munich in March 2014. Being part of the NVR institute many doors have opened for me that has been over and above my expectations. I aspire to support and empower as many parents/families as possible that have children with challenging behaviour(s). I believe and I am passionate about rebuilding family relationships, which in turn strengthens communities. Thanks to NVR, I have the strength and motivation to do just that..."
